John Swersky







John Swersky, age 46, passed away on Saturday, March 29th, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital.

He was born on October 16th, 1967 in Northampton MA, the son of David and Jane Fleming Swersky.

John, a graduate of the Riverdale Country School, attended Skidmore College and enjoyed reading, listening to music, philophizing, and taking long walks in nature.

John is survived by his father and step mother David and Jayne Swersky and his two half siblings, as well as a half-sister Blaine Dunham Birchby.

Clarence “Al” Bishop Sr.


Clarence “Al” Bishop Sr., age 79, passed away after a accidental fall on the ice at his home on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Albany Medical Center.

Al was born on May 22, 1934 in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to the late, Nelson and Helen Butterfield Bishop.
He was educated in Saratoga Springs and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Al married the love of his life and best friend Florence Perry on August 24, 1955 and they spent 58 wonderful years together.

Paul Ellsworth Pugh, Sr.





Paul Ellsworth Pugh, Sr., 67, of Ballston Spa, NY passed away peacefully Monday March 10, 2014 at his home. 

Paul was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1947 the son of the late Charles and Louise Beaty Pugh.

After serving in the US Navy, he married Nadine Draves  in Saratoga Springs, where they raised their family. He graduated from Siena College and was a retired NY State computer specialist.

Clifford (Kip) E. Barody

Clifford (Kip) E. Barody of Sweet Road passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at Glens Falls Hospital following a long battle with cancer.  He was 72.

Born on October 20, 1941 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the youngest of 14 children born to Joseph and Maude (Denno) Barody.

Clifford retired from the Lehigh Cement Company in Glens Falls where he was employed for many years.

His wife Lois (MacDonald) Barody died in 1999.

Candace Cherry Salvi

Candace Cherry Salvi, 66, passed away on Friday March 7, 2014, at her home with her loving sons and Carmine at her side.  She was born on November 27th, 1948, in Saratoga Springs, NY the daughter of the late Richard J. and Kathryn Morris Cherry.

Candace grew up in Saratoga attending Saratoga Springs, High School.
She enjoyed Reading, Arts & Crafts and the Horses.

Margaret B. Gustafson



Margaret B. Gustafson, 88, passed away on Wednesday March 3, 2014 at Wesley Health Care in Saratoga Springs, NY.  Margaret was born on November 15, 1925 in Elizabeth, New Jersy the daughter of the late Elmer and Hilma Johansson Ulrickson.
Margaret grew up in Connecticut graduating from Greenwich, High School.

She married the love of her life John C. Gustafson he preceded her on April 2, 1990.

Margaret had a great love for animals and Music.  She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Nina Hikari Martino



Nina Hikari Martino (Pettigrew), 53, of Saratoga Springs N.Y., passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born on June 28, 1960 in New Haven Connecticut the daughter of John and Kazuko Uchida Pettigrew.

       She graduated from Saratoga Springs High school, attended sessions at Juilliard pre-college and classes at Skidmore College. She was a musician and an artist, sculpting was her favorite art medium. She spent many years sculpting and assisting at the Skidmore art department.

       Nina will be remembered for her infectious sense of humor, kindred spirit and big heart. She touched the lives of many children in the neighborhood bedsides her son and daughter.  Nina had a soft spot in her heart for children, the elderly and anyone that would be considered an underdog in our society. This even included her four legged friends that she called her little animals. Nina was a strong Christian believer with the outer and inner beauty of an angel. She also possessed a beautiful singing voice. Today she sings with the other angels in heaven.

      She was predeceased by her father John Phillips Pettigrew. Survivors include her son John J. Martino of Saratoga Springs; her daughter Juliet (Mikey) Martino of Saratoga Springs; her mother Kazuko Pettigrew; her companion John Swizersky; her sisters, Elaine Hurley, Ingrid Keys and Bethany Maglione; her nieces Tomiko and Michelle; her nephews Dustin and Mark; her ex-husband and friend for life John R. Martino.

       Calling hours will be held at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Avenue, (Rte. 9) Saratoga Springs N.Y., on Tuesday March 4th from 4 pm to 7 pm.  In lieu of flowers or contributions, Nina’s wishes would best be served by a random act of kindness or a smile to one in need.  She was a very strong believer in pay it forward.
