Dorothy Lorayne Urdaneta




Dorothy Lorayne Urdaneta, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by loving family and friends. She had just turned 93 on January 1st. We would like to express our gratitude to the compassionate and caring hospital staff members who tended to her in the final days.

She was born in 1923 in Loving, TX, one of seven children of the late Leonard  and Ada Purselley.  Lorayne married Rafael Urdaneta in 1941 and moved to Maracaibo, Venezuela where she lived for 71 years.  Saratoga became her new home four years ago in order to be close to her daughter, Vivian. For a year and a half Lorayne resided at The Home of The Good Shepherd where she made good friends.

Lorayne was a wonderful and loving person who always put the needs of others before her own.  Above all, Lorayne was absolutely devoted to her husband and children.  

She is survived by her son, Rafael A. Urdaneta, her two daughters Vivian Urdaneta  and Mavalynne Urdaneta, their spouses, 11 grandchildren , 21 great grandchildren, her youngest brother Wayne Purselley and wife Barbara and her widowed sister in law Frances Purselley.

At Lorayne’s request, she is being cremated. There will be no funeral home visitation.  A Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday,  February 9th  at 10:00 am at St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs with the Rev.Timothy Keating C.Ss.R. presiding.

Arne (Lindy) Gulbrandsen


SARATOGA SPRINGS - Arne (Lindy) Gulbrandsen, 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 1, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on April 15, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles and Ingrid (Lorvold) Gulbrandsen.  On July 24, 1954 he married the love of his life, Theresa Doscher.  They spent 59 wonderful years together.

Until his retirement, Lindy was a sales representative for J.H. Calo in Westbury, NY.  After he retired, he enjoyed volunteering in area schools with learning disabled children.  For many years, he sang in the choir at the Congregational Church of Manhasset, NY.  He loved to read and loved being around people.

Robert E. Garcia


Robert E. Garcia, aged 33, died on Thursday, January 28th, 2016 unexpectedly in Glens Falls, NY.

Robert was born on July 20th, 1982 in Manhattan NY, the son of Ramon Garcia and Silvia Lemus.

He attended Glens Fall High School and graduated from St. Joseph's in Vermont, with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

Robert served his country with the United States Army in Kosovo as an Airborne Artillery Man in support of the War on Terror.

He enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Thomas M. Jablonski, age 60, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 13, 1956 in Amsterdam, NY to the late B. John Jablonski and Josephine Sterba.

Tom graduated from Amsterdam High School, class of 1974 and Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Architectural Design.

Wesley Morris Jr.

Wesley Morris Jr., age 58, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 unexpectedly at Saratoga Hospital. 

He was born on September 23, 1957 in Sierra Vista, Arizona to the late Wesley Morris Sr. and Dorothy Horton.

Wesley was a Group Leader at Espey Manufacturing for many years.  He was very enthusiastic about technology, especially one who enjoys the advances in computers, be it surfing the net, doing work, playing games or Facebooking.  He was a loving, kind and caring person always willing to help others.

Clifford L. Hoag


Clifford L. Hoag, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on January 7, 1938 in Town of Moreau, NY to the late Leo Hoag and Isabelle Potter.

Clifford was a truck driver for Agway for many years.  He loved boating, Nascar Racing, and he loved John Deere Tractors.  He also enjoyed his Model A “Hattie” and doing parades. He especially loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

He was a long time truck driver and he would say all the time “I could back up more miles than most people drove forward”.  Clifford inspired everyone he met with his gentleness and love.  He loved to laugh and cause laughter, he had a joke for everyone. He was very kind-hearted and will be greatly missed.

William F. "Bill" Cole

June 18th, 1940 – January 10th, 2016

On the morning of January 10th, 2016, Bill passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, in New York, at the age of 75.  Bill was born in Divines Corners, New York, to the parents of William J. Cole and Alice Geer, as the younger brother to Arthur Cole and twin to Robert Cole. 

Bill was well loved by those in his family and community.  Although stricken early on with a debilitating disease, Bill could always be relied on for his sense of humor, his determination to continue to walk and never once complained about the many hardships he endured.  Bill was actively involved in the betterment of his country and community serving for the United States Army Reserves, Schrade Walden Cutlery in Ellenville, NY and plant foreman for 3D Block in Bridgeville, NY and Loch Sheldrake Liquror Store.  He volunteered as a Town of Fallsburg Little League coach until 1982; President of the Hurleyville Fire Department and an active member for 45yrs. In later years, he moved to enjoy warmer weather and close family ties in North Carolina. 

Gordon Garner Katz


Gordon Garner Katz, age 63 passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2016 at his family home in Wilton.

He was born on August 18, 1952 in Ossining, New York to Morris Katz and Natalie Garner.

Gordon worked at BJ Wholesale as a tire specialist for 10 years. 

Gordon enjoyed racing, camping cooking kayaking and hiking. He also loved taking pictures of everything and everyone. Gordon was known as the man about town. He was loved by everyone and enjoyed his daily time spent at Congress Park.

WATERFORD - Steven C. Denegar, age 31, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at home.

He was born on November 24, 1984 in Albany, NY to Michael Snider and Ellen Mapes.   

Steven was a cook at TJ’s Café in Albany for many years.  Steven loved to cook, and skate boarding, and most importantly, he loved to dance and was a comedian. He was a man with a big heart and a sense of humor that made him friends with all who met him.

She was born on August 21, 1925 in Albany, NY to the late Frederick Anamier and Anne Dana.

Ruth graduated from Albany High School.

She was a secretary at RTA, in Albany for many years.  She was extremely generous. She was a kind, loving and a warm person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Dorothy Almeda (Dominy) Sunderland, age 91, passed into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Wesley Nursing Home.

She was born on May 17, 1924 in the town of Ellenburg, NY to the late Peter and Matilda Tillie Spoor Dominy.

Dorothy was a homemaker who was kind, loving and a warm person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her brothers; Jim Dominy of Oriskany, NY and Jake Dominy of  Rome, NY, her children; Karen Sunderland of Reno, NV, Linda Sunderland of Saratoga Springs, NY, Kim Anderson of Ballston Spa., NY and her daughter-in-law; Margaret (Wall) Sunderland of Ft. Edward, NY.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Tracy Novotny of Greenfield, NY, Michelle Realejo and her son Gavin of New Bedford, MA, Heather LaMarque and her sons Eric Sunderland and Owen LaMarque of Hudson Falls, NY, Kristin Anderson and her son Raymond Dacier of Ballston Spa., NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Edward Walczak, age 79, passed away on December 2, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 21, 1936 in Gloversville, NY to the late Emerson Jones and Genevieve Kopcinska.

Edward graduated from Johnstown High School, class of 1954.  Ed was an avid sportsman during high school, he played football, baseball and basketball.   

Edward was the owner/operator of the Golden Grill Tavern in Saratoga Springs for over 30 years in the Saratoga Springs area.

Solomon (Sol) Figelman, Charlottesville, Virginia - Sol Figelman, formerly of Saratoga Springs, died November 30, 2015 in Charlottesville, Virginia. 

Sol was born on November 10, 1919, at 75 Orchard Street, New York City.  He grew up at 120 Grand Avenue in a neighborhood which at that time was mostly Italian and African American.  He got along well with everyone, and it was there that his easy-going, trusting nature was forged.

Marcelino “Marcel” Roman


SARATOGA SPRINGS - Marcelino “Marcel” Roman, age 68, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 in Saratoga Springs, New York surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 10, 1947 in Aquadilla, Puerto Rico to Juan Roman and Nicomedes Sanchez.

Marcel proudly served our country in the United States Army and later graduated from the University of Akron.  He was an engineer for many years and later enjoyed a successful real estate career.

He was a devoted father and husband who loved nothing more than spending time with his family.  He was a great example to his three daughters and grandchildren, exhibiting the true meaning of family. He enjoyed day trips with his dear wife and doting on his grandchildren   He loved to vacation in Puerto Rico where he always shared many laughs with his brothers and sisters.  He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends.

She was born in Glens Falls and is the daughter of Marion Coppola and the late Frank Coppola Sr.  Lori was predeceased by her husband Stephen in 2013. Lori was a graduate of Adirondack Community College where she had earned her nursing degree.

Fred Jurgens


SARATOGA SPRINGS     On Wednesday, November 25, 2015, Fred "Freddy" Jurgens of Saratoga Springs journeyed to his final heavenly home.  At his request, he was able to spend his last days in the home he built and passed away peacefully within the presence of his family.  He was 84.

Fred was born in Bochum, Germany and throughout his childhood lived in different areas of Germany.  He faced many difficult and dangerous times as a consequence of WW2.  The ability to survive those times instilled an inner strength in Fred that he maintained throughout his entire adult life.

In search of a better life after the war he sailed to Canada in 1951.  It was there that he met his British future wife, Anne Porter.  They were married in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1954 and emigrated to the USA to begin their new life together in 1956.  They became US citizens in 1962.

Glenn Azon



SARATOGA SPRINGS – Glenn Azon, 59, of Porter Corners, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital.

He was born in Woodside, Queens and was the son of the late Jose and Aurora Blandino Azon. Glenn graduated from Music & Art High School in New York City in 1974. 

He was very involved with the music and played a variety of woodwind instruments. Music was a very important part of Glenn’s life. He began playing with a band at age 15 which performed at weddings and parties. Glenn was blessed with perfect pitch and was known to irritate many of his teachers when he had to correct them. Glenn attended John Jay College where he studied criminal justice and became a police officer for the Metro North Police Department. In 1979, he began working at the Long Island Railroad where he attained the rank of Sergeant. In 1986, Glenn entered a vigorous 15 month training program to become a Locomotive Engineer, retiring in 2009.

Maryetta M. (Dopp) Harris


BALLSTON SPA – Maryetta M. (Dopp) Harris, age 90, passed away peacefully at Saratoga Center for Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing (formerly Maplewood Manor) on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, after a brief illness.

Born in Amsterdam on April 1, 1925, she was the daughter of Carrie (O’Brien) Dopp and Edward Dopp. Maryetta was predeceased by both parents, as well as her brother, Laverne Dopp.

In her early years, Maryetta was an accomplished vocalist, and was a member of the Mohawk Mills Choral Society for 15 years; she also had her own radio program on WGFM in 1946.

She grew up in Lansingburg, NY and  graduated from Troy High School.  She enjoyed camping and spending time in Lake George. 

Deborah  is survived by her  son Matthew Rafferty (Samantha), daughters, Mia Anthony, Chloe Rafferty, and Meghan Murphy, her companion Richard Murphy, brothers Scott and Greg Rafferty, sisters, Janet Peters, Darlene Meleik, Dawn Watson  and many nieces, nephews and friends.    

Karen Sue Salley


Karen Sue Salley, a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 59 on Tuesday, November 3rd after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 20th, 1956 in Schuylerville, New 
York was the daughter of the late Loren and Jean  Salley.

Karen is survived by her lifelong loving partner Bob “Sprocket” Eckardt, their son, Loren Eckardt and his wife Diana of Braunschweig, Germany, her sister Nancy Wood, brothers Joe, Tim and Dean Salley and her many nieces and nephews. Karen was a devoted employee of the Saratoga National Historical Park for 25 years from 1990 until 2015.

Maureen was a Licensed Practical Nurse, working in several area nursing homes, home care agencies, hospice, and last employed at the Albany VA Medical Center.

Debra Ann (Moran) Thomas of Saratoga Springs, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 22nd, 2015.  She was 49 years old.

Debbie was born in Queens, NY on March 12th, 1966 to her mother, Lydia Taylor and father John (Sean) Moran.

She moved to Saratoga with her parents when she was a child and graduated from Saratoga Springs High School.  Debbie took care of horses at the Saratoga Springs Racetrack for many years, and even owned her own horse.  Debbie inspired everyone she met with her kind and loving personality, as well as her wit and intelligence.  She was a hardworking woman who worked numerous jobs to provide the best for her three sons.  Family was a very important part of her life and Debbie would do anything she could to help out. Debbie was loved by many and she will be deeply missed.

JoAnn graduated from South Glens Falls High School, class of 1992.  Upon graduating from high school JoAnn worked for the Saratoga City Center in Saratoga Springs for many years; she was also a substitute teacher, worked at the Parting Glass in Saratoga Springs, and at McDonalds in Saratoga Springs.  She was a kind, loving and a warm person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Irving C. Osterhoudt


Irving Charles Osterhoudt, age 92, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.  He resided at Winners Circle, Ballston Spa, N.Y.

He was born on May 24, 1923 in Staatsburg, NY to the late George Henri Osterhoudt and Emily Delaney.

Irving was drafted into the Navy during WWII serving on the battleship Missouri and present at the signing of the peace treaty in Tokyo Bay.

After the military Irving worked for IBM retiring after thirty years.  He worked in management and developing real estate for future plants.

William E. Hull


Ballston Spa., William E. Hull, age 84, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 18, 1930 in Schaghticoke, NY to the late Earl Hull and Beatrice Sutton.  William graduated from Mechanicville High School, class of 1947.

He married the love of his life Ruth Humphrey Hull on October 16, 1954 and they enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage.  They were blessed with two sons, Perry K. Hull and Dan D. Hull.  His first son Perry passed away on July 26, 1980 at the age of 22.

Lawrence M. LoMonico, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at his home after a lengthy battle with leukemia and Parkinson’s.

He was born in 1939, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Michael C. LoMonico and May Iannello LoMonico.

Lawrence graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY.  He entered Syracuse University where he graduated with a BA in Psychology and Marketing and an MS from the Newhouse School of Journalism.   He is a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1967 with the rank of Captain.  He served at Shepard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX and Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX.

From 1970 until 1976, Lawrence was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Co. Lift Truck Division-Europe.  He was Regional Sales Manager in Rome, Italy, for the Mediterranean countries and Sales Development Manager, Geneva, Switzerland.

Joan C. McLaughlin, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on January 7, 1939 in Glens Falls, NY to the late Frederick and Catherine Kloss Richardson. 

Joan graduated from South Glen Falls High School and met the love of her life Frederick McLaughlin in 1971 and they spent 44 wonderful years together. 

Joan was an assistant teacher for BOCES in Saratoga Springs for many years.

Barbara Nora Brockway


Barbara Nora Brockway, age 81, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015 at Washington Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 20, 1933 in Saratoga Springs, NY to the late Andrew Peter McCormick and Beatrice L. Palmateer. 

Barbara worked at the Ballston Spa Knitting Mill for many years. 

Barbara enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, word searches and watching her western movies.  She loved volunteering her time to the Salvation Army, caring and helping others.  She loved and cared for everyone and she loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her family.

Keith M. Hanna, age 62, passed away on July 24, 2015. He was born on September 21, 1952 in Saratoga Springs, New York to Millard Hanna, Jr. and Amelia Pike.

Keith worked for the City of Saratoga Springs, Department of Public Works for many years and also moonlighted as a taxi driver.

Keith will be remembered by many as "Hands" -- the big guy with a loud booming voice and big heart.  He loved softball, the horses, card playing and most of all, he loved his grandchildren.

Morris Katz, age 94, passed away on Wednesday July 22, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 16, 1921 in New York, NY to the late Philip and Sadie Katz.

Morris graduated from Ossining High School.  Upon graduating from high school Morris served his country in the US Army Air Corps which later became the US Air Force.  After serving his country as a WWII veteran Morris continued his education attending the New York University graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business.

He was born on November 16, 1946 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Kayzo Robinson and Malissa Robinson.

Henry was a night watchman and Horse Groomer for many years at the Saratoga Race Track in Saratoga Springs.  Henry inspired everyone he met with his gentleness and love.  He loved to laugh and cause laughter.  Henry loved being outdoors.  He was known for his love of horses, his knowledge and his unfaltering kindness.

Willsboro - Linc Barton Jaquish, 50, of Willsboro and Saratoga Springs, NY and Wrightsville Beach, NC, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015. Friday always was his favorite day!

Linc was born on November 5, 1964, in Plattsburgh, NY, son of Rodger Jaquish and Jane Brown Jaquish.

Linc always lived life to the fullest and made sure to have a good time, whether it was cracking jokes during holiday dinners, helping get demo cars ready with his nephew, grilling, or just sitting around having a drink by the pool at his sisters.

Soumaya Baaklini was born on December 30, 1943 in Lebanon.  Soumaya was married to Abdo Baaklini who departed this world in 2003.

While living in Lebanon, she received a bachelor’s degree from the American University of Beirut followed by a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University at Albany, here in Albany, New York.  She was committed to her career as an Associate Librarian at the New York State Library and upon retiring she cared for her grandchildren Giavanna and Iskander, who were her pride and joy.

Olga graduated from New York City High School and upon graduating from high school, Olga continued her education attending college.

Olga worked as a dress designer and model prior to becoming a homemaker who was kind, loving and a warm person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, quilting, painting and had a compassion for art.  She also loved spending time with her family.

Douglas Rocco Quarters, age 58, passed away on Friday, May 29th, 2015 at home in St. Petersburg, Florida after battling cancer for many years. 

He was born on January 13th, 1957 in Glens Falls, New York to Donald Quarters and Ilean Wible.

Douglas graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1975 and received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Clarkson University in 1979.  He served as a correctional officer at Great Meadows Correctional Facility for 27 years, retiring in April 2011.  In his retirement, he was able to enjoy all the things he loved including hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors.  He traveled around the U.S. and accomplished his dream of living on the Gulf of Mexico before he passed.  Doug lived to the fullest and made an impact on all those who met him.

Charles M. “Chuck” Palmateer, age 53, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 5, 1961 in Saratoga Springs, NY to the late Sherman G. Palmateer and Patricia Mitchell.  He was a resident of the Saratoga area all of his life where he made friends with his quick sense of humor and friendliness.

Chuck was a hard worker, beginning his work life in plumbing and heating. Chuck was a heating installer for Apollo Heating Inc. in Schenectady for many years.

She was pre-deceased by her “Ever-lubbin’ hubbin”, John.

Lynda graduated from Catholic Central High School, class of 1965. She worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, before getting married in 1966, starting a family and becoming a full-time mom.

Walter K. Kehl Sr., age 86, passed away on Thursday, April 23rd, 2015 at home, with his loving family by his side.   

He was born on February 4th, 1929 in Albany, NY to the late Karl Kehl and Pearl Hansen Kehl.

Walter was a plumber for over 30 years with the Local 7 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union in Albany, NY.  He also was a Veteran in the US Army who served his country during the Korean War.  Walter thoroughly enjoyed puzzles, bowling, fishing, hunting and gardening, but mostly spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Michael L. Graska, age 52, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 unexpectedly at his home.  

He was born on July 23, 1962 in Norwich, CT to Rudolph L. Graska and Yvonne Guillemette Graska.

Michael graduated from Saratoga High School.  After High School Michael attended Clarkson University graduating in 1984 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.  He then went on to the University of Illinois receiving a Master’s of Science in 1987.

He was a self-employed throughout his life.  In 2001 he changed his career and worked for Gary Posner Inc. in charge of the IT Department.

Clarence "Duane" Mabb


BALLSTON SPA – Clarence “Duane” Mabb passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital on Thursday, April 16, 2015, after a long illness. 
Born in Ballston Spa on July 19, 1941, he was the son of Clarence and Geraldine Mabb. 
After leaving his position at Albany Ladder in the 70s, Duane was the owner and operator of D & B Garage for more than a decade; he owned (or was employed by) several other auto repair shops throughout his career. 

Duane was gifted in mechanics, and taught his sons and grandson the trade. His greatest joy was taking road trips to York Beach, Maine, with his friends and family, and the many family gatherings that took place at the “farm” throughout the years.  Duane will be especially missed by his canine companion, “Rocky,” who rarely left his side.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Tompson Jr., who passed away in 2009.

Linda Hilton, age 69, passed away on April 3, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs, NY at 7:45 a.m.

She was born on March 3, 1946 in Cambridge, NY to John Samuel Hilton and Madeline Bennett Hilton.

Linda graduated from Salem High School in 1964.  Upon graduating from high school Linda continued her education attending Nursing School at Albany Medical graduating as a Registered Nurse.  She pursued her education and achieved her Master’s Degree in 1990.  She worked at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, NY as well as Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, NY where she completed her career at that hospital of over 20 years.  She was a Cardiac ICU nurse and also taught new nursing students for many years.   She was a dedicated Nurse throughout her career and taught her nursing students to be the best they could be.
