Esther Goldstein Shapiro, 93, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, after a short stay at Mary’s Haven in Saratoga Springs NY, with her loving daughter and granddaughter at her bed side.


She was born August 13, 1919 in Bronx, NY, the daughter of the late Henry and Dora Waxsman Goldstein.
Esther married the love of her life Max Shapiro, and they lived in Oceanside on Long Island until his passing in 1984.
While Esther was a mother and wife she attended Graduate School, at C.W. Post L.I.U. to become a School Librarian.  She worked for West Hempstead High School, NY for many years.


The most important thing in Esther’s life was her Family, she loved them dearly.  She loved traveling,cooking, crocheting, and giving compliments to others.


In 1998, she moved to Saratoga Springs to live with her daughter Sheila and granddaughter Nalina.
Sheila was her Caregiver at home until a few days before her passing.
Eshter is survived by; daughter, Sheila Shapiro, Wilton, NY; sons, Howard Shapiro (Marsha), Volcano, Hawaii and Richard Shapiro (Kendall),Tucson, AZ; granddaughter,  Nalina Shapiro; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and loving friends.  


Funeral service will be held in her honor at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at 9:00 AM with Rabbi Jonathan Rubenstein presiding. 


In lieu of flowers donation can be made in her honor to Saratoga Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or Mary’s Haven, 35 New St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
