William Thomas Nolan
William Thomas Nolan, age 77, passed away suddenly March 5,
2015 at his home in Saratoga Springs surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on June 12, 1937 in Albany, New York. He attended Vincentian Institute in Albany and
graduated from Minerva Central School where he excelled in Sports.
Bill served on the NYS police force for 30 years before
retiring in 1989 from Troop T where he served as Tech. Sargent.
He enjoyed racing and training horses at the harness track
in Saratoga, golf, hockey, Notre Dame and the NY Yankees. Bill was a born leader. He also believed in
giving back and helped with fundraising at the Blessed Sacrament in Albany as
well as serving as president of the Adirondack Red Wings Booster Club. He and
his wife of 31 years, Nancy, loved to travel and especially enjoyed going on
cruises.
Bill will be dearly missed by his loving wife Nancy. They had a remarkable fun-filled life
together. He is also survived by his
daughters; Courtney Freihofer (Matt), Mary Gladding (Geoff), Patty Quirk
(John), son; Tim Nolan, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous sister and
brother-in-laws, and a brother, Thomas Nolan (Diane).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and
Marguarite Nolan.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church,
241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs at 10 a.m. on March 14, 2015.

Condolences for William Nolan Will was my close friend and classmate through school at MCS. We shared a lot of good experiences back in the day. I last saw him at our Aunt Molly\'s funeral. RIP old friend. Norm Sullivan

ReplyDeleteBILL NOLAN was a great friend of mine. I didn't find out about his death until Mar. 14. Damn, that was a hard e-mail to read, but I'm grateful to finally be informed.
ReplyDeleteWhen my son and I last visited Bill and his wife Nancy, we got to make a side trip to the barn to meet the latest Nolan horse racing interest. We had a great time. There was no such thing as a bad time around the Nolans.
A former NY State Trooper, Bill was part old-school "man's man," but with a soft-side heart of gold, too. His guidance of the Booster Club made it a tremendous asset to our hockey operations in Glens Falls. But, the club had deep and far-reaching impact beyond sports, too. Many, many charitable causes throughout the North Country benefitted from the benevolence of Nolan and his kind, enthusiastic board and membership. It was my pleasure to accompany Bill and the group to many functions, some with official agendas and others simply for the sake of fun and comradery. We stayed friends long after the teams I worked for had gone, and now, very sadly, Bill is gone, too.
There is an Adirondack Sports Hall of Fame (I recall being at one of the banquets in the '90s) and a relatively new entity, the Adirondack Hockey Hall of Fame. A true unsung hero and hockey/community contributor, Bill Nolan deserves consideration for inclusion in both, in my opinion. He'd look at me right now and say I'm crazy--he was just a low-profile guy who loved hockey and doing things that helped other people. Bill helped me just by being a good man and a good friend that I could count on, especially when I was new on the job in a new and very unfamiliar place. That was 20 years ago, but I've never forgotten...
Bill Nolan will always be a Hall of Fame person in my eyes and heart. My sincere condolences to Nancy, and all family and friends whom this may reach. I share in your sense of loss and wish you peace and comfort in the days ahead,
