Soumaya Baaklini

Soumaya Baaklini was born on December 30, 1943 in Lebanon.  Soumaya was married to Abdo Baaklini who departed this world in 2003.

While living in Lebanon, she received a bachelor’s degree from the American University of Beirut followed by a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University at Albany, here in Albany, New York.  She was committed to her career as an Associate Librarian at the New York State Library and upon retiring she cared for her grandchildren Giavanna and Iskander, who were her pride and joy.

She was a loving and kind mother to her two sons, Iskander and Farid, who filled her heart with joy and happiness.  Soumaya was a devoted grandmother who was happily awaiting the birth of her soon-to-be third grandchild.  She had a passion for cooking, taking her granddaughter shopping and enjoying many lunch dates with her girlfriends. She was a peaceful, quiet and sincere person who was always there to lend a helping hand to others.

Soumaya passed in peace on Wednesday June 10, 2015 at the age of 71.  She leaves to mourn her two sons Farid Baaklini and his wife Claudia Baaklini, and Iskander Baaklini and his wife Juliet Baaklini and grandchildren Giavanna and Iskander Baaklini. 1. Soumaya was my boss and my friend. She was an elegant, courageous and compassionate woman, and I will miss her greatly. My heartfelt condolences to her family.

  2. Alex and Farid, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I know she loved you both and was always there for you. Try to think of all the great times you had and that will help you get through this rough time. She will be with you always watching down on your family.

  3. To Farid and Iskandar, my sincere condolences. Your mother was a lovely woman and a good friend. I was out of town when the funeral service was held. My prayers for her and for her whole family.

  4. When Soumaya became Abdo's girl we were children, and there was a popular Lebanese song saying: "Abdo is loving Gandoura and wants no one else...", but as children we used to sing: "Abdo is loving Soumaya and wants no one else...". You can be sure that the angels in heaven would be singing now our version of that song.
