Irving C. Osterhoudt


Irving Charles Osterhoudt, age 92, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.  He resided at Winners Circle, Ballston Spa, N.Y.

He was born on May 24, 1923 in Staatsburg, NY to the late George Henri Osterhoudt and Emily Delaney.

Irving was drafted into the Navy during WWII serving on the battleship Missouri and present at the signing of the peace treaty in Tokyo Bay.

After the military Irving worked for IBM retiring after thirty years.  He worked in management and developing real estate for future plants.
 Irving always enjoyed woodworking, building two of their homes or improving a current home.  He also built doll houses for his granddaughters and intricate wooden ships for his grandsons.

Irving also enjoyed playing golf and had the thrill of his first hole in one.  In his later years he enjoyed geneology and puzzles.

Irving is survived by his wife, Margaret MacLeod Osterhoudt.  The couple would have celebrated their seventy third anniversary in November.  They had a remarkable, fun-filled life together.  He is also survived by his daughter, Linda Osterhoudt, of Ballston Spa, N.Y. , his son, David Osterhoudt (Kim) of Side Lake, Mn. , three brothers, Richard, Ralph and Wallace, five sisters, Eleanor, Katrina, Rosebelle, Jean Ann and Janet; eleven grandchildren, Brooke, Shelly, Charles, Corey, Amy, Jeffrey, Elaine, Edward, Ethan, Elliott and Evan ; nineteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Irving is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kenneth Osterhoudt two brothers, Hiram and Vincent and one sister, Alberta.

The entire staff at Hospice receives the gratitude of Irvings entire family for the peace and tranquility they added to the last few months he was with us, also a special thank you to the staff of Mary’s Haven of Saratoga Springs.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 8, 2015 from 6 – 8 pm at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.).

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015, 11 am at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.),  followed by the interment with Military Honors at  the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
